Every gardener knows that a successful growing season requires a lot of water. However, with droughts hitting numerous parts of the United States, meeting those water demands to ensure that a garden is productive and flowers are flourishing can be a costly operation. The Channell Rain Barrel provides an easy way to collect, store, and irrigate with the free water running off of your roof.
Diverting the Rain
The Channell Rain Barrel can be installed in three easy do-it-yourself steps! Each barrel comes with a connection kit, which has been specifically designed to collect water from your home's existing downspouts and channel it into the rain barrel. The water diverter doubles as an overflow once the rain barrel is full, creating a completely closed water storage system that diverts excess water away from your home's foundation.
How Does the Diverter Work?
The diverter is a rubber flange that is meant to be installed in one of your home's downspouts. Once you have drilled a hole in the designated 2-by-3-inch standard downspout with the included hole saw, simply install the diverter by squeezing it through the hole and into the downspout. Once it's properly installed, connect the rain barrel to the diverter using the hose included in the connection kit.
How Much Rain Will I Collect?
You would be amazed how much water runs off of your roof in a rain storm. As a rule of thumb, every 1,000 square feet of roof area in a 1" rain will yield approximately 600 gallons of water. Our 60 gallon rain barrel would fill in just a tenth of an inch of rain over a 1,000 square foot collection area.
